A re-enactment kit for “The Performance.” Read your brief, hand your partner theirs, and live it together tonight.

### For Her

HER CHARACTER BRIEF — "The Performance" For: the letter's sender stand-in

#### WHO YOU ARE TONIGHT

A woman who has spent years making other people beautiful and standing two steps back from her own spotlight. Tonight, for the first time, the room turns to look at you — because you decided to let it.

#### WHAT YOU WANT

To be watched, on your own terms, by someone (or someones) whose opinion you actually care about — and to find out that being seen like this feels like ownership, not exposure. You are not performing to be judged. You are performing because some hungry, unclaimed part of you has been waiting for permission.

#### HOW YOU LEAD

You don't need to be a dancer. You need one light, one piece of music, and a willingness to move slowly enough to feel it. Start stiff — that's honest, not a failure. Let your partner's eyes (and voice) thaw you. Test the moment like ice: small hip sway, a dropped shoulder, head tipping back so a throat-line catches the light. Undress at the pace of your own nerve, not a countdown. One clasp, one strap, one slow reveal at a time.

#### THE TURN

Partway through, let yourself be surprised — by a sound from the dark, by your partner crossing the room to you, by how much braver your body is than your mind expected. The moment to hold onto: you get to choose whether to stop or say "stay." Choosing "stay" is the whole fantasy in one word.

#### ESCALATION

1. Stiff, self-conscious, testing the water.
2. Loosening — first real pleasure in your own movement.
3. The turn — being fully seen, choosing to continue.
4. Being touched, watched, and wanted at once — direction from your partner ("let them see you") that you get to accept or adapt.
5. Afterglow — no performance left, just the two (or three) of you catching breath in a room that suddenly feels much smaller and warmer.

#### BOUNDARIES FROM THE LETTER

The letter's heat is explicit but always chosen — Reenie says yes before she's finished being afraid, and gets a real, spoken chance to stop when the twist lands. Build in your own version of that beat: a clear check-in moment mid-scene, spoken by your partner, that you get to answer honestly. Nothing here requires an actual third person unless you and your partner want one — see the optional watcher note in directors\_notes.txt.

### For Her Partner

PARTNER CHARACTER BRIEF — "The Performance" For: her partner (the letter's Onyx Watt stand-in)

#### WHO YOU ARE TONIGHT

The one who asked for this — plainly, patiently, without pressure — because you know something about her she hasn't let herself know yet: that she is worth watching. You built the room around her. Now your job is to watch her find it out.

#### WHAT YOU WANT

Not to direct her body, but to give her a room where she can direct it herself. You want to watch her go from stiff to loose to unashamed, and you want her to feel your hunger as permission, never as pressure. Your desire is the light she's dancing in.

#### YOUR FIRST MOVE

Set the scene, then get out of the way. One lamp or candle aimed at her, everything else dim. Put on the music (see prop\_setup.txt) and say some version of the letter's line: "There's one light. Just the one, on you. Do whatever the music tells you to do." Then sit, or stand at a small distance, and actually watch — no phone, no multitasking, full attention. That attention is the gift.

#### ESCALATION ROADMAP

1. Set the light and the music, say your line, then wait. Let the silence do work.
2. Watch without rushing in — let your face and your breathing show her she's landing, even before you speak.
3. When she loosens, respond audibly: a caught breath, a low "that's it," her name. Sound is your primary tool in beats 1–3.
4. Cross the room. Turn her gently so she's still lit but facing you (or an agreed direction) — this is the letter's "let her see you" beat. Ask, plainly, if she wants to keep going.
5. Take the lead physically only once she's confirmed she wants that — hands, mouth, the promised "that's my girl" register of praise. Keep narrating what you see and want; her arousal in the letter is fed as much by being witnessed as by being touched.

#### TONE

Unhurried, certain, openly hungry but never impatient. Onyx never rushes a button or a step in the letter — that patience is the whole seduction. Match it.

### For the Watcher

#### OPTIONAL THIRD ROLE — THE TRUSTED WATCHER

For: an optional third participant, only if all three of you have already talked this through and want it

This role is optional. The two-person version of this kit (her + her partner) works completely on its own — the "watcher" in the letter is really about the thrill of being witnessed, and a partner's full attention already supplies that. Add a third person only if this has been discussed and wanted well before the night itself, by everyone involved.

#### WHO YOU ARE

The one who has admired her quietly for a long time and finally got to say so. In the letter, Ann isn't a stranger paid to spice things up — she's the person whose good opinion matters most, revealing herself mid-scene with nothing but a soft, delighted laugh in the dark.

#### WHAT YOU WANT

To watch someone you love become fully herself, without shame, and to let her know — with your presence, not with instruction — that what she's doing is beautiful. You are witness, not director.

#### YOUR ROLE IN THE SCENE

1. Sit apart, in dim light or shadow, quiet, present.
2. Let a small, real sound escape when the moment calls for it — a breath, a soft laugh, her name. This is the letter's reveal beat; you don't need to hide who you are for long.
3. Wait to be invited closer. The letter's turn happens because she says "stay" and "come closer" — those words belong to her, not to you.
4. If invited in, participate only as much as everyone has agreed on beforehand — sitting close, a hand at her jaw, words of tenderness. The letter's watcher touches only once explicitly welcomed.
5. Afterward: a small, quiet gesture (a kiss to the forehead, a held hand) says more than words.

#### BOUNDARIES

Every step of physical involvement in this role should be discussed and agreed by all three people before the scene starts — the letter's watcher is trusted completely precisely because of a real, established relationship. This is not a stranger fantasy; don't cast it as one.

### Director’s Notes

DIRECTOR'S NOTES — "The Performance"

#### PREMISE (one sentence)

A woman who's never let herself be the center of a room dances alone under one light for a partner who adores her — and discovers that being watched, when she's the one who chose it, feels like being crowned.

#### CAST

- Her: the dancer, the letter's Reenie stand-in.
- Her partner: the audience-of-one who set the whole evening up, the Onyx stand-in.
- Optional third: a trusted watcher, the Ann stand-in — see watcher\_character.txt. Skip entirely for a two-person night; the scene works complete without a third.

#### TONE

Unhurried, reverent, a little decadent. Think low gold light and old jazz, not a strip-club performance — this is about permission and ownership, not a show for approval. Slow is the whole point: nothing in the letter is rushed, including the undressing.

#### SCENE STRUCTURE (4–5 beats)

#### 1\. THE ASK (setup)

Partner sets up the space — one light source, music cued — and says the line: "I want to watch you dance. Just the one light, on you." No pressure, just an open invitation. She says yes on her own terms, even if she's nervous.

#### 2\. THE STIFF START

She steps into the light. Awkward for a few seconds is correct — arms not knowing where to go, self-consciousness real. Partner's job here is just to watch, warmly, without rushing her.

#### 3\. THE THAW (escalation)

Small movements first — hips, shoulders, a dropped head. Partner responds with sound: a caught breath, a low word. She starts to undress at her own pace, one piece at a time, feeling her own beauty as something she's making rather than something being taken.

#### 4\. THE TURN

The heat beat. If playing with the optional third: this is the reveal moment (a soft laugh from the dark, an invitation to stay). If two-person only: this is where partner crosses the room, turns her gently, checks in verbally ("still good?"), and the scene moves from performance to touch — the letter's "let them see you," Position C (from behind, facing the room/partner) works well here, or any position that lets her face stay visible and expressive.

#### 5\. AFTERGLOW

No dialogue needed. A held quiet, a kiss to the forehead or temple, breath settling. The letter ends on the line "I intend to give it to myself again" — let the scene end with her feeling that, not needing to be told she was good.

#### PHYSICALITY & SENSORY CUES

- One light source only — a single lamp, a ring light, even a phone flashlight propped just so. Everything else dim or dark.
- Slow tempo throughout, especially the undressing — this is not about speed.
- Sound matters as much as touch: caught breath, low praise, her name spoken like it means something.
- Eye contact during the heat beat — the letter's power move is Onyx turning her to face the room, and Ann leaning into the light. Facing your partner (or letting her see herself in a mirror) does the same work in a two-person scene.

#### ADULT-CONTENT BOUNDARIES (from the letter's progression)

The letter runs from clothed performance through undress to explicit, sustained sex, but every step is chosen and checked — Reenie says yes before it starts, and gets an explicit pause-and-choose moment when the situation changes (the reveal). Build a real verbal check-in into beat 4 before moving from performance to touch. Nothing about "being watched" in this kit requires anyone beyond the two of you unless everyone involved has actively wanted and discussed a third in advance.

### Prop & Setup

PROP & SETUP SHEET — "The Performance"

#### LIGHTING

One single light source aimed at the performance space — a warm-toned lamp, a dimmable bulb on its lowest gold setting, or even a phone flashlight through a scarf for warmth. Everything else in the room dark or nearly dark. The letter's whole motif is "the light itself was a kind of hand" — the light should feel like attention, not illumination.

#### MUSIC

Slow, brass-heavy torch song energy — think 1920s-30s jazz standards, a moody sax or muted trumpet, a beat like a pulse rather than a dance tempo. A single repeating track or a short playlist of 3-4 songs works well so there's no need to manage a phone mid-scene. Vinyl-crackle or "old record" texture if easy to find; not required.

#### SCENT

Something warm and a little decadent — a candle in amber, tobacco-flower, or vanilla-leather notes; a dash of an old-fashioned perfume on her wrists and throat. Suggest a hint of something like spilled champagne or gin nearby (an actual drink poured and left half-finished works, or just the associated scent of citrus and juniper).

#### WARDROBE

- Her: something with a slow reveal built in — a wrap dress, a robe over minimal underneath, or a slip with a clasp/tie that opens gradually. A sequined or shimmery fabric (even a cheap piece) helps sell "catches the light." Stockings with a visible seam are a nice period touch but entirely optional.
- Partner: fully dressed, unhurried — no need to undress until invited later in the scene. Rolled shirtsleeves, an open collar, or anything that reads "a person with somewhere comfortable to sit and watch."

#### PROP CHECKLIST

- \[ \] One dimmable lamp or warm light source, positioned to spotlight one spot in the room
- \[ \] Playlist queued and ready (slow jazz / torch song)
- \[ \] A chair or piano-height surface (a dresser, a counter) she can move near or lean against
- \[ \] A robe, wrap dress, or slip with an easy one-handed release
- \[ \] Candle or scent (amber, vanilla, tobacco-flower)
- \[ \] Optional: a drink poured for atmosphere, not necessarily for drinking
- \[ \] Optional third-role seating, set apart and dim, only if the watcher role is being used

5. Let yourself be seen, touched, wanted. Afterglow — stay quiet, stay soft.

#### ANCHOR LINE

"I have stopped being the girl who stands two steps back."

#### REMEMBER

This beauty is yours. You're making it happen, not having it taken.
